RIMINI: He dedicated all his strength
to enrich all lands under his rule, to celebrate
himself and all his peerage, Rimini in Particular,
building great symbols of wealth and power, first
of all the great TEMPIO MALATESTIANO (1447), conceived
by the extraordinary architect Leon Battista Alberti.
To Another Great Artist, Filippo Brunelleschi ,
was ordered the most famous Castle of the Malatesta
Family CASTEL SISMONDO (1437/46), the noblest and
most elegant military fortress which has ever been
built.Rimini had a fundamental place in the life
of the Malatesta but the Seignory in reality was
born in the hills near Rimini, in Verrucchio where
was born the real progenitor of the family: Il Mastin
Vecchio. Sigismondo will start his conquest of Romagna
building the majestic ROCCA MALATESTIANA (sec XVI)
which defended it from the attacks of his enemies
He
conquered areas both from the coast and inland,
in particular those valleys crossed by two rivers,
Conca and Parecchia. Here in VALCONCA he had another
capital, the fascinating boroughs of MONTEFIORE.
He reinforced the castle erected from Malatesta
Guastafamiglia and obtained in this way the majestic
ROCCA MALATESTIANA (century XIII) which was of extreme
importance to defend the land from Federico II da
Montefeltro. To create his defensive line against
the Montefeltro, Dukes of Urbino, he fortified another
boroughs which was in a strategic position : MONDAINO
strengthening the ROCCA MALATESTIANA (century XIV-XV)
with 13 towers. This places was used to sign peace
treaties against his enemies (… but this last
for a short time………)
A
particular role was played by SAN GIOVANNI
IN MARIGNANO, the so called “Malatesta
Granary” as here were stored the cereals and
corn produced in this reach land which were stored
in caves.
