Dante
Alighieri
Dante
was born in Florence in 1265, one of the most representative
Italian poets, father of the Italian language, heir
of a family with ancient roman ancestry. He used
to call himself as ’Florentine by birth but
not for morals’. When he was exiled from Florence
for political reason, he moved in Romagna, his new
home country and every time he could discover the
beauty of Romagna nature, its social reality, the
spoken language and usages and customs of the inhabitants.
In remembering the coats of arms and colours of
the Roman Empire, he moved in Ravenna at the Da
Polenta Court. Here he spent the best years of his
whole life. Here he chose to die and to be buried.
The land of Romagna were described in his Paradise
and Hell and dedicated many verses of his works
to great historical characters: form Malatesta,
popes, Da Polenta…… that’s way,
from more than 7 century, people use to say that
the outline of the Tosco-emilian Apennine take after
his profile and also they use to imagine him knocking
on the doors of the castles………
