Benito
Mussolini
Uneasy
symbol of a folk and of an unsatisfied era, Benito
Mussolini’s name is connected with the Italian
historical vicissitudes of the period between the
end of the First World War and the end of the second.
He was born in Forlishire in 1883 and took in all
the progressive and revolutionary movements that
were spreading over Romagna and became a passionate
propagator of the same. He started his political
life, as a political activist of the socialist party
up to the end of the First World War when he suddenly
changed his political believes he gave up his political
ideals to look for a glorious fame in the Middle
class world that he despised. He was expelled from
the Socialist party because he assumed an antisocialist
and antisyndicalism position that brought him to
the foundation of the “fasci di combattimento”
of the fascist party. His error in the foreign policy
obliged him to approached Hitler’s Germany
with whom signed the Pact of Steel starting the
war notwithstanding not ready for it, deceived from
a fast triumph. Then in1940 started the war vicissitude
that pointed out the start of the end of the fascist
regime. In 1943 the king arrested him but two month
later he was set free from the German, later, during
his escape with his companion Claretta Poetracci,
partisans arrested him and the 28th of April 1945
they executed him.
